The Artists

UPK#5 features prominently by Anangu mainly from Amata, who proved to be a group of dedicated, multi talented musicians and who constantly tested new musical ideas and songs to generate the sounds of UPK5.

Some musicians already lay claim to APY fame from their participation in previous UPK albums and other music productions, while others were up and coming artists bringing youth and energy to the mix. With many hands on deck at some moments, people took turns on instruments to make contributions and offer suggestions on the compositions to the songwriters, revealing fresh ideas and unknown talents.

An expansive list of songs, lyrics and ideas were drafted during the recording period: the Amata mob were keen and committed to the creative challenge. There was only enough time to channel a few of these songs into the final set comprising the album and the process was one of great collaboration, enthusiasm, musicianship and fun.

The notable ‘out of towners’ for UPK#5 were a group of skilled musos form Fregon; rocking in after a long and exciting football carnival out east and working productively for just one evening session to lay down their song.
